return to home page THE POPE
Perhaps you've read the news story about the Pope receiving a "special" treatment for his Parkinsons Disease. The story was especially compelling for several reasons. First, the man who met with the Pope was Professor Luc Montagnier, one of the discoverers of the Aids Virus and a world famous immunologist. Hence there was credibility. Then the story told how reporters following the Pope were startled by the improvement in his health and physical capabilities. Finally we were left with a brief mention of something to do with fermented papaya and a second unnamed substance. This had all of the elements necessary to make all of us clinging to hope for a cure sit up and take notice.
Since then I have been focusing on increasing my knowledge of COQ10 and creating the PWP Group and had put this in the back of my mind. I've noticed recently that several people keep asking about the Pope's treatment on different discussion groups. Also there are people running around selling fruit extract pills "like the Pope takes".
One of my goals in maintaining this website is to make it a resource center for PWP. A place where you can check in and know you will get the straight story to the best of my knowledge. To keep from being taken advantage of we need to continually separate out "Urban Legends" from facts. So I decided enough people were curious that I would look into it.
I think that hearsay is nice but I would prefer to hear from the source whenever possible. So I tracked Professor Luc Montagnier down in Paris after several weeks of searching. He was very gracious and shared with me exactly what he suggested to the Pope, why, and where to get it.
The first is Fermented Papaya Preparation called Immun'Age This comes in a packet (sachet) you open and dissolve under your tongue. He recommends 1 to 2 packets every morning before breakfast and 1 to 2 packets every evening before going to bed. (leave to dissolve below the tongue then drink water or herbal tea.) His belief is that this is both a very powerful antioxidant but also has immuno-stimulant properties. It is said to mop up free radicals which can cause neurological damage. Its use in Parkinson Disease is based on "a likely hypothesis oxidative stress causes the death of neurons."
The second item is a capsule formulation containing Glutathione and absorbic acid (vitamin C). His directions are to take one capsule in the morning before breakfast and one capsule in the afternoon with water or tea for the first week. The 2nd week and following take as above but use two capsules rather than one. For information on glutathione you can search the web and find many sites proclaiming it a powerful antioxidant with many benefits and a necessary substance at a cellular level. Here is a link which gives a description of Glutathione. There is also a therapy which involves injections of Glutathione and which some medical practioners are claiming very significant positive results with. For another view of this controversial therapy here is an article from The Parkinson.org website on Glutathione Injection therapy.
Professor Montagnier was quick to point out that the above items need clinical research to document their effectiveness. He also stated that they are not meant to replace conventional therapies and should not be incorporated into your program without consulting your physician.
The glutathione formula that we have group pricing access to is called Recancostat. This is described as the bodys Master Antioxidant. There is an art and a specific process necessary to gain the benefit of this supplement and not have it oxidize and effectively be worthless. That is why we provide discounted access to the Recancostat formula. Read the literature on it and you will see what I mean.
Since the news story came out before the report on the clinical study on CoQ10 I asked Professor Montagnier if he thought CoQ10 would be compatible with these other items. He replied that he felt it could work synergistically.
As to what all this means (MY OPINION ONLY) it has some gaps in it as far as I can see. I don't doubt his credibility and knowledge. I am just frustrated when I try to measure the nature of the Pope's condition. The Vatican has never even officially acknowledged that the Pope has Parkinsons. With this as a starting point they certainly aren't going to allow any improvement in his health to be attributed to anything other than prayer. A lot of the reports of the Popes "robust health" have originated in the official Catholic Press. I would question their willingness to say "Gee the Pope is really doing badly" if that were the case. Plus Professor Montagnier is championing the use of condoms in the fight against Aids which doesn't make him a candidate for sainthood in the Vatican's eyes. This is another reason the Vatican can't be expected to be very forthcoming. So we really don't know what the Pope is or is not doing at this point. The more important point is to recognize the underlying theme in the recommendations that Professor Montagnier made. The basis of his belief is the importance of antioxidants. This is the main reason for promoting the Fermented Papaya called Immun'Age and also the glutathion. These may well be powerful antioxidants but so to a lesser degree are Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Coenzyme Q10 and many other supplements available at local health food stores. Blueberries are a powerful natural source of antioxidants. So are many other food sources.
I hesitated to put up this information because I didn't want to come across as promoting something. But it is important to be kept informed. I suggest you look at your diet and supplements and make sure you have some antioxidant help in there. I believe the foundation that this approach is built on is the elimination of free radicals through the use of a powerful antioxidant such as the Recancostat Glutathione Formula) and the Immune Age or whatever format you are comfortable with.
